Cebu is located south of Manila in the Southern Philippines. Cebu can be reached through air via Mactan International Airport in an hour flight from Ninoy Aquino International Airport. It can also be reached by sea, and according to the province’s official website, it will take 22 hours before one reaches the island.
Together with my office mates, we went to Cebu with just barely 24 hours of stay. With that limited time, we have tried our best to make the most out of it. Prior to our scheduled trip, we have arranged a van to pick us up from Mactan and will bring us to various Cebu destinations of our choice. Since we only have a day, we chose to get a city tour rather than go on island hopping.
First Stop: Lapu-Lapu Shrine in Punta EngaƱo, Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu in the island of Mactan. It is a relatively wide but not so huge complex where a marker of the place where Magellan succumb to death is in place as well as Datu Lapu-Lapu’s 20 meters high bronze statue facing the sea.
Second Stop: Doce Pares Mountain Training Park where one of Cebu’s zipline adventure is located. It is situated above a hill and right before the TOPS viewdeck. Doing zipline in this part of Cebu is very relaxing. It feels like you’re flying above natures gift overlooking Cebu City. The experience is just so magnificent. This is my first zipline try and I did it in superman style.
Third Stop: Cebu’s Taoist Temple. Cameras are not allowed inside the temple where the statues of their gods are located. Though it is allowed around the premises. What is exciting here though is another panoramic view of Cebu City can be seen.
Fourth Stop: Lunch time at CnT Lechon Cebu. Needless to say, try their lechon š Everyone are so hungry that no one dared taking photos of foods they served to us.
Fifth Stop: A Historical Plaza in front of an old church. Sorry I forgot the name of the plaza…
Sixth Stop: Fort San Pedro. Fuerza de San Pedro in Spanish language is a military defense structure. It is triangular in shape where two sides are facing the sea and other is facing the land. The fort is located in an area now called Plaza Independencia standing near the MalacaƱan sa Sugbu (MalacaƱan in Cebu/MalacaƱan of the South).
Seventh Stop: Magellan’s Cross and the Basilica Minore del Santo NiƱo. Magellan’s cross is housed in a small chapel standing right beside the Basilica Minore del Santo NiƱo. A sign below the cross hints that the original cross brought by Magellan in Cebu is enclosed inside the wooden cross that is visible to all. Though others believed that the cross is already a replica and that the original have been lost or destroyed.
Eighth Stop: Tune Hotel. After a long day of road trip, time to relax a bit in the comfort of a best value hotel right at the Archbishop Avenue in Cebu City near Ayala Center Cebu. The hotel is a prepaid hotel. Yes, you’ve read it right. It’s a prepaid hotel. Your prepaid card serves as your key too. The card has enough prepaid credit for room use with hot and cold shower plus fan. If you happen to need a WiFi connection or an air-con, etc. then head to the reception area and tell them you are going to top-up for those additional amenities you want to have.
Ninth Stop: The Terraces, Ayala Center Cebu. Dinner time at the Gilligan’s. Ayala Center is flourishing with various establishments like what in every malls here in Manila. It’s a center for gimik too…After dinner, we went back to the hotel and took some power nap for a very early flight back to Manila the following day…
